Cray is Alive and Well, Running Windows or Linux

Cray, which has returned from the dead or the fatal grasp of SGI, and was at the HPC On Wall Street show with a very hot small box that can fit on an office, uses Intel processors and runs Windows HPS Server or Red Hat Linux. It runs on standard office power and is pretty quiet.

And it certainly had people talking.

A welcome name from the past, now based in Seattle, a West Coast city just outside Redmond, Washington. Microsoft’s announcement says Cray CX1 starts at $25,000 and with Windows HPC Servere 2008 is easy to purchase, deploy, operate, and upgrade. Really.
